England international Adam Lallana’s career is at a standstill at Liverpool, with Southampton reportedly interested. He admires Brendan Rodgers so maybe Leicester City should also consider the available playmaker.

First of all, Adam Lallana is a talented elite professional footballer, that is not in question. However, his fitness and tendency to be constantly injured throughout his career is an issue, as well as a necessary observation. But could he benefit Leicester City?

Whether these unfortunate problems emerged from bad luck or some of his own malfeasances or shortcomings in training is another worthy query. That is the greatest concern for prospectively interested clubs as Lallana’s Liverpool career comes to an end.

We are all aware of the Reds’ supreme quality at present, they will cull a surplus this summer – Lallana will reportedly be one departure. This past weekend the Express stated:

"Express Sport understands that the 31-year-old [Lallana] fears he has no future at Anfield under Jurgen Klopp – and has told friends he would welcome a move back to the South Coast [Southampton FC]."

Clearly this player still has something to offer the top-flight; don’t forget he was a standby for Gareth Southgate for England’s 2018 World Cup squad despite injury. Maybe a deal could be reached with a potentially worried club regarding reduced wages or bonuses. A measure like this could apply to a lack of availability for games.

Statistics in that respect are revealing: in two seasons Lallana has only played 25 Premier League matches, with zero assists or goals. A gamble, maybe even a risk is the accurate way to describe this notion. Albeit for a still gifted player who fitted in to Jurgen Klopp’s press and link-up play excellently when featured. Although Lallana was available often, just not selected.

If Youri Tielemans does not sign for Leicester City permanently during the pre-season then another adept playmaker is needed to play alongside James Maddison. Certainly Maddison would need cover of a skilful nature in order for the Foxes to produce a satisfactory output, even if the Young Lion has a Tielemans-esque partner.

When browsing Lallana’s YouTube highlights, most noteworthy to Foxes of Leicester was the eclectic mix of finishes from Lallana. His extensive repertoire covers all sorts: from target man-style, high-press counter approach, long-range, tap-ins and individual wonder goals.

Additionally, the former Southampton midfielder supplied 14 assists over two Reds campaigns from 2015-2017. Of course, he was a supply machine with the Saints during his early occupation.

Lallana likes Leicester City’s Rodgers

The fact that the 31-year-old has a positive history with Leicester’s boss is a promising element, as explained by popular Liverpool website Empire of the Kop:

"I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Brendan Rodgers for having the faith to sign me in the first place. I’m extending my contract today – but I will always be grateful for the opportunity he gave me to come to this club in the first place. As for the gaffer, I’m not sure there’s anything new I can say on him that hasn’t been said already by most, if not all, of our team.I heard Phil Coutinho’s comments after he signed his new contract and what he said about the manager echoed what we all think; he’s world-class, he’s a winner and we trust him completely. The manager is a special talent and we are lucky to have him here and it’s great he’s committed for the long-term as well. But I think the most important word with our manager is ‘trust’. We trust him and in turn he places a lot of trust in us – and hopefully we reward that on the pitch for him.”– Adam Lallana"

Heavy criticism for LCFC boss Rodgers. light. Trending

Offering Lallana a yearlong contract is a possible compromise if Tielemans does not become a Fox. Though a lot of City fans will disagree, mainly because of the injury concerns. £13 million is a touted fee so a loan is preferable. Remember, accomplished depth is necessary in Leicester’s push for premiership sixth.
