Leicester City are “not” trying to sign Bayern Munich and Netherlands legend Arjen Robben, reports the Leicester Mercury in what is one of their – or any other major newspaper’s – greatest contributions in a transfer window yet.

No one really knows where did the rumour come from, but you would think that the party responsible must be one of those pretentious ITKs that we find so many of on Twitter these days.

Some have gone to the extent of reporting that an agreement has been reached and that the Dutch great’s signing would be announced as soon as Tuesday. Well, imagine the scenes if it were to actually happen.

That would be the end of Sky Sports and BBC Sport – since they haven’t reported anything on this apparent bilge yet.

But that is not happening, to be honest, as the always reliable Leicester Mercury have made clear – and we must thank them. The report states that Leicester are not in talks with the 35-year old and that there is no chance of him moving to the King Power Stadium.

Also, some of his recent quotes have been blown out of context, so a clarification is vital. But before that, here’s what he said that is being used in a wrong way:

"“I am late making my decision because of my injury. I wanted to get back on the pitch first,” said Robben.“It is not an easy decision to make. If you decide that you are going to keep playing, you have to find a place where everything is just right, not just in terms of football but also for my family.”“It (retirement) is an option, but I don’t know whether it will happen,” he further added when asked if hanging his boots is an option."

Next. England international Adam Lallana could support James Maddison at Leicester City. dark

So, when Robben said, “It is an option, but I don’t know whether it will happen,” he was speaking with reference to a potential retirement, not a move to Leicester – which is what is being thrown around currently.

He is not joining Leicester, after all.
