Arsenal have enquired about Leicester City midfielder James Maddison, reports the Sportsmail.

However, they’ve been quoted a whooping £60 million, which means that the chances of being able to sign him are bleaker than bleak for the Gunners, as they only have a transfer budget of just £45 million (what are they even going to do that with that money?).

It could have doubled had they won the UEFA Europa League, but the 4-1 defeat to Chelsea in the final has left them with not much to spend and another season without the significant changes needed. That smells of mediocrity.

Regardless, it’s good for news Leicester. With Arsenal not representing much of a threat in the transfer market – or even in the Premier League – the club has to deal with at least one less club to be able to protect their players – and to achieve their ambitions.

Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also understood to be interested in Maddison but none of them has made a move as yet, possibly because of the high price.

Meanwhile, there has reportedly been a £71 million bid from La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for left-back Ben Chilwell, according to Spanish outlet AS. If true, then the offer is an incredible one and maybe Leicester should consider it.

Manchester City are another side who have been after Chilwell for a very long time and still remain the England international’s most likely destination, given that they keep Pep Guardiola and can find a way around FFP again.
