Manchester United have made contact with Leicester City midfielder James Maddison’s representatives over a potential summer move, reports the Daily Record.

However, the absence of Champions League football is an important factor and could make Maddison decide against a move to Old Trafford.

The former Norwich City midfielder had a remarkable first season in the Premier League as he looked pretty much at home in the top division.

He was the only player to create 100 chances in the league and scored more direct free-kicks (three) than any other player.

Overall, he scored seven goals and recorded as many assists in 38 appearances in all competitions for Leicester last campaign. For a 22-year old who hadn’t tasted top-flight football before his transfer, those are mind-boggling numbers.

No wonder Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are all interested in signing him this transfer window.

While the Gunners may not have the money to match Leicester’s £60 valuation, Spurs and European champions Liverpool stand a good chance for multiple reasons.

But ultimately, it will be Maddison’s decision that matters the most. He has not expressed a desire for a transfer or has sounded like he would consider a change – which is good news.

At Leicester, he has a top coach, fantastic young players and a leading role in the team, all of which is what any player would want.

The Foxes look set for big things next season, and Maddison would surely not like to not be a part of that. In an ideal world, he stays put.
