Harry Maguire reportedly told he can leave Leicester City if valuation is met
Leicester City have told Harry Maguire that he can leave this summer if the club’s £85 million valuation is met, according to TEAMtalk.
To be fair, that is a lot of money even for someone like Maguire. Judging by what we have seen, Leicester won’t sell for anything less than that, and any club will be reluctant to pay that much.
Who among the current top six will pay north of £80 million? Manchester United and Manchester City are the only teams who you can say can afford that kind of an asking price.
But again, £80 million+ is an extraordinary amount. The Manchester clubs might be famous for their extravagant spending but they would think twice before shelling a world-record sum out.
If, however, Leicester do get their wish, then they plan to spend half of that on Brighton and Hove Albion centre-back Lewis Dunk. Yes, Lewis Dunk.
It would make him the most expensive player in the club’s history, eclipsing the £28 million that Leicester paid for Islam Slimani in the summer of 2017. We all know how well did that turn out.
Nonetheless, if Leicester get anything over £75 million for Maguire, they should sell him and look to reinvest.
Much has been said about his impact at the club but if the Foxes were to be asked to choose the players they could do without, then don’t be surprised to see Maguire being one of them.
This isn’t to do with ability. This is just about who can be immediately replaced, and Maguire can be replaced.
