Harry Maguire will be allowed to leave Leicester City
Leicester City would not stand in Harry Maguire’s way if the right offer comes in this summer, as per an exclusive report by the Mirror.
Maguire had a “gentleman’s agreement” with the late Leicester chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha that he will be allowed to leave.
He has also been told that the club will therefore not renege, given that their £80 million valuation is met.
Manchester City and Manchester United are both fighting for his signature, although the latter have been more aggressive in their pursuit, as revealed by an unnamed source close to the England international.
"“United have been very aggressive in chasing Harry. They’ve made it clear they want him and are definitely keen to get him.”"
Maguire is understood to be more interested in a move to the Etihad Stadium; however, the Citizens are not ready to pay the world-record fee demanded by Leicester.
It leads to a very interesting situation. We know City want a centre-back. We know they want Maguire. We know Maguire wants them. But Leicester want £80 million – and City do not want to pay that much.
Will it make Maguire wait right until the end of the window to decide what does he do next? Or will City wait until the end to see if Leicester bring their asking price down? It might also be that the 26-year old decides to go to United, after all – that’s also possible.
This will be a transfer saga worth keeping your eye on because of the clubs involved, the player’s preference and the awful amount of money involved.
Let us just hope it is nothing like Riyad Mahrez’s switch last year.
