Bartosz Kapustka has apparently been given a Leicester City lifeline following a promising chat with Foxes manager Brendan Rodgers.

Can you remember the hype around Bartosz Kapustka when he joined Leicester City in 2016. Not that there wasn’t enough magical promise and feeling of achievement around King Power Stadium. Drunkenness transpiring through a miraculous outcome – is the only way to describe the then atmosphere on Filbert Way.

Of course these emotionally amazing times were due to the astonishing Premier League triumph in 2015/16. Unfortunately for the Foxes, their recruitment was awful in preparation for an unfathomable title defence. Many of the new players faded away and gladly eventually moved on! Yet there is a starlet still on the books, Kapustka.

Poland’s youthful playmaker made his name as an 18-year-old for the national side by scoring on his debut. Then a call for the Euro 16 squad and wonderful opening match performance sealed his status as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.

Since then at Leicester, the winger didn’t impress in the few cup appearances made and was shipped out on loan. Ultimately he found himself in the Belgian second division at King Power-owned Belgian team OH Leuven. Stranded? No. Drifting? Yes.

Leicester City’s forgotten man

However, in Monday’s Leicester Mercury was news that the Pole may resurrect his career with the Foxes:

"“It may seem that I am unwanted there, but I feel great at Leicester. I came to the club at the end of the season with injuries, I was also at the last match against Chelsea in the Premier League.“The club’s employees, the president, the guys from the team – everyone welcomed me very warmly, with openness, a smile, respect. I feel that everyone supports me in this difficult moment, wishes me the best, and does not treat me like a mercenary.“I also met the coach Brendan Rodgers, I had the opportunity to talk to him about my future in the club. These were very positive words, giving me high hopes.“I will say this: everything depends now on me. I am not written down as a loss there.“I do not think about the next loan, for this moment only recovery is what counts for me, I am not looking ahead.”“I am currently undergoing the most important period of rehabilitation, the intensity of my training is already very large. When it comes to overall fitness, everything is at the right level.“From what I see myself, the rehabilitation is going according to plan. Leicester City’s doctors are also happy with their progress.“(Earlier this month), I had a consultation with Dr. Pier Paolo Mariani in Rome who operated on my knee. The results are very good.“I try to use this period as best as I can to improve many aspects, like my strength and power. I can do more work in the gym.“Leicester City begin the preparatory period next month (July 1). I think that in the first phase I will not be ready 100 per cent, but soon I will be able to enter.”– Bartosz Kapustka"

It’s certainly a boost for the player, as well as being lovely to hear he’s positive and has options. Although that doesn’t always amount to something at elite level.

More from Foxes of Leicester

Kapustka is currently in rehabilitation following what’s described as a serious knee injury, though it’s not career threatening. While the attacker will return to Belvoir Drive on July 1 for pre-season training, he won’t work with the main squad to begin with due to the seriousness of his recovery.

In Foxes of Leicester’s honest opinion the Poland man is unlikely to revive or indeed begin his time at the East Midlands outfit.
