Demarai Gray knows what he must do to become a Leicester City legend
Demarai Gray still has a lot to prove at Leicester City. Although his talent is obvious, it has not been fully utilised as of yet.
Before we begin this article, FoL just wants to assure Leicester City supporters that we want the best for the club, and its players. That said, Demarai Gray’s output of 16 goal involvements in all competitions in four years is simply not good enough.
It’s not that the promise isn’t there – it is abundant. The issue is that the potential has never been realised; albeit with international and club managers vowing to stick with the wingman. They, as we all saw from the self promotional leak, see the class that Gray possesses in training, after what can only be described as filthy skill; in a good way!
Of Gray and fellow Fox Harvey Barnes, boss Brendan Rodgers said this at the end of the 2018/19 campaign:
"“They need time, playing in a clear structure which is attacking. They can get the numbers up and be more efficient players.“Some players can seduce you just by watching them. They look fast, but shine the torch in on the numbers they’re not producing much. That’s what you don’t want to be.”– Brendan Rodgers"
Regarding his latest season on Filbert Way, the 22-year-old says:
"“It was just okay. I wanted to achieve more, but at the same time I did improve and learned things about different aspects of my game.“What do I need to improve? My numbers, my goals and assists need to improve. I might get a bit of criticism for that but I know it myself.“I’m 22 and am still improving and I have a lot of improving to do. Whatever doubts people have about me, I don’t mind.“It is frustrating for me as well but everyone’s journey is different and I know it will come.”– Demarai GrayBoth quotes via Leicester Mercury"

What does Gray have to do at Leicester City?
Naturally the goals and assists must come for the King Power outfit: or the Young Lion will be playing for relegation-fodder clubs. Or he’ll be in the championship with Birmingham again. That may sound harsh but it is, unfortunately, a footballer’s reality.
However, Gray did himself no harm by scoring this perfect winger’s finish versus Romania in the ill-fated Euro 19 tournament for England Under-21s.
Maturity issues?
Confidence is not an problem for the youthful attacker. In all honesty though, it must be channeled into mazy runs with facilitating and scoring – not on Instagram. His immaturity was again outlined after defeat by Romania, whom Gray previously described naively as ‘light work’ – before England crashed out of the youth competition.
If the Birmingham-born player knuckles down and concentrates on his football, he could rapidly become a Leicester legend. All the attributes are present for a substantial career at elite level.
Whereas talent is a given, and work ethic is seemingly satisfactory, something seems unbalanced within Gray’s world. What that element is, if at all, Foxes of Leicester cannot pinpoint. Some question his desire beyond an astronomical paycheck. While our advice for the forward is: focus, focus, focus – and you will succeed.
