Liverpool asked to sign James Maddison
Former Liverpool player Jimmy Carter has advised the Reds to sign Leicester City midfielder James Maddison.
He has been linked with a £60 million move to Manchester United, while Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are also on record as his admirers.
But Carter wants to see the 22-year old at Anfield next season and would pay as much as £100 million to get him.
£100 million? Leicester would not bother asking Maddison if they were to get as much. They’d just sell him right away. Anyway, here’s what Carter told the James Gray show:
"“James Maddison seems like a perfect fit for Liverpool.“For me if Liverpool were to get him, they’re talking about £70-75million. I would pay £100m to get James Maddison into the midfield at Liverpool, and he would be an instant success.“He would be a remarkable player and acquisition for Liverpool FC.“I would love to see James Maddison slot into that midfield.“Because what you’ve got is the likes of Fabinho, Henderson who are more holding midfield players, not really renowned for their creativity – even though Henderson is showing more creativity now than he has before.”"
It was also revealed by Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast that Maddison has asked his representatives to arrange a “face-to-face meeting” with Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Maddison reportedly wants to know as to what his role would be in the team and whether or not does he get to play in his desired position – two factors that essentially determine if a player will flourish in a team or not.
He had asked to be left alone to focus entirely on the UEFA European U-21 Championship. And now that the tournament is over for the Three Lions, we can expect some activity soon.
United have been after Harry Maguire and Wilfred Ndidi as well; however, Leicester’s asking price has put them off in the former’s pursuit while there has been no development in the case of the latter.
There is a lot of time left before the transfer window is closed, though, and Leicester have to keep fighting the Big Six till then.
