Vicente Iborra makes huge Harry Maguire claim

Former Leicester City midfielder Vicente Iborra has claimed that Harry Maguire’s move to Manchester City could be like Virgil Van Dijk’s to Liverpool.

The English champions remain the favourites to land the 26-year old centre-back as they look to replace Vincent Kompany at the heart of the defence.

Despite Manchester United’s strong interest and the willingness to pay big for Maguire as well, the man himself is believed to favour a move to the Etihad Stadium.

And Iborra, who spent a fair few months with the England international, reckons that his move to Manchester could impact Pep Guardiola’s side the same way that Van Dijk’s did Liverpool.

Speaking to Radio Marca, Iborra said:

"“He is a great player.“He’s very powerful, with good balance, great at bringing the ball out and he can score goals.“He had a great World Cup and is a super footballer.“His transfer to Manchester City could be like Van Dijk’s to Liverpool.”"

Maguire isn’t really at the same level as Van Dijk but he does have the raw ingredients, and where there are ingredients and Pep Guardiola, there is hope.

Look at how Raheem Sterling’s transfer was considered to be a huge waste at the time. He’s England’s best now and there is absolutely no one who can challenge his status.

Maguire could develop in the same way. He is the country’s best centre-back already and with Guardiola coaching him, it might not be too long before he is counted among the absolute elite of the world.

Leicester fans would obviously hate the fact that he has to leave; however, that is part and parcel of the game.

Every good player has to take that big next step in his career. For Maguire, this is that step. He gets his wish, Leicester get the desired money. All smiles.
