Leicester City’s asking price for Harry Maguire revealed: Report
This figure is apparently Leicester City’s asking price for their England international, Harry Maguire. Potentially a world record fee for a defender.
Regardless of what you hear, we’re all in fact on the transfer carousel: agents, managers, directors of football and recruitment, supporters, owners and journalists alike. And similar to a more terrifying ride, you still don’t want to get off! The transfer window is annoying, entertaining, encapsulating, monumental for football and often disastrous. Leicester City have their fair share of those emotions twice annually.
Stars like James Maddison, Ben Chilwell and Harry Maguire are seemingly very sought after. With Maguire attracting potentially extortionate offers for his services. These bids have emerged from giants, and rivals, Manchester City and Manchester United.
According to Mirror Sport:
"Manchester United have launched a £70million bid for Harry Maguire – which will be rejected by Leicester.United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to add an experienced centre-back to his squad this summer and sees Maguire as the man to lead his defence. But Leicester are set to rebuff United’s opening offer, believing Maguire to be worth £90m – with the Foxes only prepared to sell if their valuation of the England centre-back is met. With Maguire under contract for another four years, Leicester are under no pressure to sell, but United do not feel the 26-year-old is worth more than the £75m Liverpool paid for Virgil van Dijk 18 months ago – a world record fee for a defender."
£90 million – 90, that’s nine and a zero. Wow. Just for fun, here’s what you can buy with £90m: 10 F1 racecars; 581 commercial trips to space; a whole bunch of private islands – the list from Metro goes on.
Is the highly rated centre-back worth it? Err, is any athlete apart from Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi? It’s difficult to say when players like Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic sell for £76m and £40m respectively. Again, an inflated market for transfers.
That being said, the Fox is a particularly talented, proficient and most importantly a modern centre-half. Consequently many onlookers opine that Maguire would be more suited to Pep Guardiola’s Citizens.
