New signing Youri Tielemans chose Leicester City over Manchester United, according to Sky Sports News.

The Belgian’s agent wanted to wait and see how Paul Pogba’s situation developed at Old Trafford, hoping for the Frenchman’s potential departure to eventuate in a bid for Tielemans.

However, the 22-year old did not want to wait for that long, not after Brendan Rodgers had left him convinced anyway. The Irishman has always had a way with words, you see.

Who would have thought that a player would some day reject a possible move to United for Leicester? It would have been the wildest of fantasies back when Nigel Pearson’s Foxes were fighting to survive in the Premier League in 2015.

Yet here we are. Leicester are just a different animal now. They’re financially strong, a bigger brand than four or five years back and, of course, world-class on the pitch.

It can be safely admitted that Leicester are very much in contention for a top six finish. There is no way you are counting out a team with Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez, James Maddison, Youri Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi, Ricardo Pereira, Harry Maguire and Ben Chilwell.

In fact, Manchester City and Liverpool apart, who is it that Leicester genuinely cannot compete with for a place? Maybe Tottenham Hotspur, but not Chelsea, Arsenal and United (certainly not United).

If Leicester continue this transfer window madness – and there are reasons to believe they will – the number of possibilities will only go up. Bring on the next season.
