Manchester United set to drop interest in Harry Maguire
Manchester United are set to drop their interest in Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire, according to the Evening Standard.
This is the second consecutive summer that the Red Devils have spent pursuing the 26-year old, and like last time, they seemed to have baulked at the asking price again.
Sky Sports have already reported that United are willing to pay £70 million for the England international; however, Leicester have maintained that they want something in the region of £90 million.
United have been put off by that sort of a price and would not, under any circumstances, pay that much. Given that Leicester are stubborn themselves, this could be it and Maguire could be staying, after all.
This would prove to be Leicester’s best transfer window of the Premier League era if they manage to keep hold of Maguire.
They’ve already brought in the ideal additions in Ayoze Perez, James Justin and Youri Tielemans to make what was already a strong team stronger.
Maguire’s departure, although Leicester are equipped to deal with it, would undoubtedly make the team a tad weaker, but if he stays, then from the front to back, there is no significant weakness that teams can look to exploit.
It’s why a top six spot is beginning to look very realistic now. While Leicester have strengthened, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United haven’t, and they all look vulnerable.
Unless there is major activity in the next 25 days, this is very much the Foxes’ chance to achieve what they have been aiming for.
