Brendan Rodgers reveals time-frame for Maguire transfer: Leicester City
By Matt Taylor
Despite rampant speculation suggesting that Harry Maguire’s United medical was imminent, he remains very much a Leicester City player.
Undeterred by the constant reports that Maguire wishes to leave City, primarily fuelled by outlets such as Sky Sports, Leicester displayed their backbone by playing their 26-year-old centre back in Tuesday’s visit to Scunthorpe United.
It seems that, as of now, any bids from either Manchester United or Manchester City are currently way off the mark. Due to the Foxes’ wonderful and rather affluent owners, King Power, they are in a such a comfortable financial position that they can hold out for a world record fee for their England international. Simply put, Leicester do not need to sell unless their valuation is met.
Furthermore, an additional aspect assisting City’s comfortable position over the potential Maguire deal is the player himself. Specifically, the defender’s attitude. Brendan Rodgers has made it abundantly clear that Maguire’s professionalism throughout the saga has been extremely commendable.

Also, finances aside, Leicester’s 6 ft 4 in behemoth centre half may be better off staying with the Foxes, a side certainly heading in an upward trajectory. According to his manager’s most recent words, the deal will become increasingly unlikely as time passes, even reaching a point where no bid, however high, could prise Maguire from City’s clutches:
"“There will be a point in time where even if the valuation is met, it may well be too late”“We can’t leave ourselves short and we’ll have targets in mind IF Harry was move on. But, we don’t want to sell, and we don’t need to sell”“He’s been absolutely brilliant. I think all the supporters and people involved in Leicester can tip their hat to him, because he’s been the ultimate professional”“We hope that he’s here for the first game of the season and for the rest of the season. But it’s an easy task, because he’s not been distracted in any way”– Brendan RodgersVia Owynn Palmer-Atkin"
Either way, due to their admirable stubbornness and strong financial position, Leicester will emerge from this saga with a positive outcome. Keep Maguire, one of their best defenders, or receive a world record fee. It is ultimately a win win scenario for the East Midlands club.
