If Kasper Schmeichel is rightfully made Leicester City club captain, Wes Morgan can still be influential. Manager Brendan Rodgers has a choice to make.

A particularly promising season is almost upon us. Leicester City are in as exciting a position as they’ve ever been; none of us quite realised the extent of unified quality leading up to 2015/16. Although reminiscing to that time, the omens from the ‘Great Escape’ period lent to positivity too.

Right now Brendan Rodgers has definitely assembled a top six challenging team. Claude Puel also made some strides in implementing simple, yet sometimes brave decisions that impacted this prospectively special side. For example a failed but fundamentally sound passing style; along with trusting and promoting youth.

There are still pockets of the squad which can be enhanced; for example a very talented winger, striker or right-back could push Leicester to Champions League placement.

Additionally, there are one or two dynamic issues to be addressed potentially. One concern is continuing with 35-year-old Wes Morgan as captain when he may not even feature in the Premier League; with as low as fifth choice status.

This quote is from boss Rodgers on Morgan’s probable involvement for the upcoming season, and comes from Leicester Mercury:

"“Wes is a wonderful leader, I had a real long chat with him and he’s going to be very, very important for me, even if he’s not playing.”"

While captain Morgan can still be influential in the dressing room and impact his team-mates in a proactive manner on the training pitch, it seems as though Kasper Schmeichel should be made club captain for various obvious reasons.

The well-liked goalkeeper mainly deserves this promotion because he is a constant starter. Schmeichel’s earned his stripes through excellent play and commanding his defence thoroughly; as well as being a trustworthy guy and leader on and off the field of play.

If Morgan is to only be selected for a couple of matches in the League Cup, hypothetically, would you keep him in this ineffective club captain role?

Or allow him to practice this, almost player/assistant coach, capacity regardless of playing and without excess responsibility? Thus enabling Schmeichel to take over the mantle and embrace it; consequently giving the remaining roster a recognisable on-pitch leader.
