It looks like Harry Maguire could be staying at Leicester City for the 2109/20 season after all, as manager Brendan Rodgers says the club doesn’t want or have to sell.

As of Saturday, January 20, Harry Maguire is still a Leicester City player. In fact he actually player the first half of the Foxes’ 2-1 away victory at Cheltenham Town. Though the his side suffered a 1-0 first half loss in effect; a plethora of substitutions emerged at half-time.

A comeback win came thanks to goals from Jamie Vardy, through a Youri Tielemans assist. Then Marc Albrighton expertly rounded the opposition goalkeeper to complete the win; Papy Mendy supplying a fine through ball.

Much of the build-up throughout the week was dominated by the ongoing Maguire transfer saga. It’s not on the scale of the Riyad Mahrez one but perpetually annoying for all involved all the same.

After the match at the Jonny-Rocks Stadium, manager Brendan Rodgers gave us an update on the status of the English centre-back’s future via BBC Leicester Sport:

"“There are no further bids that I’m aware of. There’s still time to go but he will cost another club a lot of money. We don’t have to sell or want to sell – he fits how we work“"

So it appears the club definitely want the 25-year-old to remain a Fox; obviously this has been hinted at by officials, and Rodgers himself admires the Englishman as Maguire suits the style of football. Yet this is a specifically more explicit confirmation of intent.

The above tweet came directly following Leicester City’s win in Cheltenham.

More from Foxes of Leicester

By August, Foxes of Leicester believe the deal will have to be wrapped up, as Rodgers placed an indefinite time-frame on the sale of Maguire – which ends before the transfer window shuts on August 9.
