Leicester City under no pressure to sell any player, says Brendan Rodgers
Leicester City are under no pressure to sell any player, says manager Brendan Rodgers.
The Irishman has sent a pretty strong message to Manchester United et al, who have been repeatedly knocking at the door in their pursuit of Harry Maguire in particular.
There has been no shortage of reports stating that an agreement has already been reached between United and Leicester; however, Rodgers has rubbished any claims made.
He also put it on record that Khun Top, the club’s vice-chairma, is pretty relaxed at the moment and is in no mood to give in.
"“Nothing, (he’s) just relaxed,” said Rodgers. “Like I said, he’s in a very fortunate position where he doesn’t need to sell anything or anyone.“That’s where the club is – a great state of health – because there’s no big pressure to sell any player.“If a player does leave Leicester City, then the player would need to be met because we have a top-level player, coveted by top-level clubs and I respect that.“Harry is on a long contract here and there’s been no valuation or near to that which would make Top have a look.”"
Well, these comments are quite interesting. Only a couple of days back, Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones, who is one of the most reliable journalists out there, had reported that terms had been agreed for a world-record £80 million deal.
Considering Jones’ record, you would have to think that Rodgers is only trying to play with words while he still can in order to avoid any possible panic, perhaps?
Or maybe the saga is such that even the ones who normally get it right have, for once, got it wrong. How United would be wishing that Mino Raiola were Maguire’s agent.
Had that been the case, then the 26-year would have gone AWOL already and would have only shown up at Old Trafford on the day of his unveiling as the world’s most expensive defender.
Sadly for the Red Devils, that is not the case, and as it stands, Maguire is a Leicester player. How long for is a question for another day.
