Manchester United made contact with Leicester City today as Harry Maguire missed training, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The centre-back called in sick at Leicester – at least that’s what we know – to add a bucket more of fuel to fire.

In response to a United fan’s question, perhaps the most reliable journalist out there, Romano, confirmed that contact had been made and that the clubs are still trying to agree a deal.

He also added that “Maguire is pushing”, which is worth taking note of.

We have not seen anything yet that points to the 26-year old going out of the way to get what he wants, but as has been feared for a long time, that time might be near.

It has also been reported that Manchester United will only pay £80 million for Maguire if they are able to sell Romelu Lukaku for over a £79 million.

They have been in talks with Inter Milan – who had a £53.9 million bid rejected last week – and if the Belgian striker’s recent tweet is something to go by, then a departure could be closer than we thought it would be.

As and when he’s off to Italy, we may as well consider Maguire gone, too. Honestly, at this stage, it is what a majority of the fanbase would want, given how big a distraction the saga has become.

Next. Why Leicester City are only EPL club not to play abroad in pre-season. dark

If the only way we can get rid of this distraction is an £80 million transfer, then be it. At least the club can move on in time for the next season and, if possible, bring in a replacement as well. That would be great.
