Former Leicester City player Shinji Okazaki was released this summer. The Premier League champion has joined Spanish club Malaga.

Shinji Okazaki is a Leicester City Football Club legend; as are all 2015/16 Premier League squad members. He lifted the trophy as a proud player, and starter, in the main Foxes XI as a new signing that year. His legacy carved into proverbial stone.

While Okazaki will be most fondly remembers by Leicester supporters and England’s top-flight fans as a lively, industrious striker that popped up with the occasional very important goal.

But most will recount his amazingly warm and congenial manner, most characteristically exhibited by his wonderful smile. Okazaki doesn’t just light up the room, he lit up the league with that pearly grin. Japan’s very well-known export to the premiership will be sorely missed amongst his Foxes team-mates too, we are sure.

Over to Spain

Though he will now hopefully find himself regular playing time at a new club, Malaga CF in the Spanish second division, Segunda División. And Foxes of Leicester tip the Japan international to be a thorough success there:

"Former Leicester forward Shinji Okazaki has signed a one-year deal with Spanish second division side Malaga. The 33-year-old was part of the Leicester team that won the Premier League in 2016, but he left the Foxes at the end of last season. On his departure from the Foxes, the club said Okazaki would be “forever revered” for the mark he made on fans.Via: BBC Sport"

Malaga will be aiming for a swift return to La Liga, the country’s top-division, and Okazaki can provide much-needed winning experience. Additionally, of course, he’ll provide tutelage to the burgeoning Spaniards in his team. At age-33 the former Mainz attacker cannot expect to play 90 minutes every match; however, he has much to offer in many capacities.

During his Leicester Career Okazaki managed to contribute in 24 goal involvements for the East Midlands side. Whilst, as formerly mentioned, his effectiveness often came from a dogged, selfless determination to win the ball from his opponents. Or, create space for others. Yet he is a very good footballer too. Good luck in all your future endeavours, Shinji.
