DONE DEAL: ‘Manchester United, Leicester City agree Harry Maguire fee’
Leicester City have reportedly accepted an £85 million bid from Manchester United for their defender Harry Maguire. Ending a-drawn out transfer saga.
To be perfectly frank – as a Leicester City fan and person whose job it is to analyze every part of the club – it is completely satisfying to accept an £85 million bid for Harry Maguire. And I’ll explain why.
Firstly, on Thursday many national sports media outlets claimed that the player had been omitted from the Foxes squad to play Atalanta in Friday’s friendly. The decision is said to be mutual between he and boss Brendan Rodgers, due to the ongoing uncertainty of the centre-back’s future.
Friday afternoon saw an article published by Telegraph‘s John Percy – a reputable journalist, certainly in the know when it comes to Leicester – stating that Manchester United and the east Midlands side have reached an agreement. All national outlets have now also suggested the deal is done.
"Harry Maguire’s long running transfer saga is over with a £85m basic deal between Leicester City and Manchester United completed this morning. The two clubs reached agreement on terms for the player which meet Leicester’s requirement for money up front and add on fees likely to follow. The 26-year-old was left out of the Leicester squad to play the Serie A club Atalanta at the King Power on Friday night. The fee will be a record for a defender, eclipsing the £75m paid for Virgil Van Dirk by Liverpool in January last year.– John Percy, Telegraph Sport"
It had been previously alleged by many sports reporters that Leicester wouldn’t entertain any offers that don’t only involve cash. However it seems with the astronomical prices we’re discussing, that the King Power club has decided it is still in their favour to agree. Additionally, add-ons are expected to be included.

With the star athlete supposedly wanting to leave, the club are always in a Riyad Mahrez-esque awkward position. Maybe the move is better for all involved.
If Foxes of Leicester must give our opinion on a polarising situation, then the touted amount is a more than acceptable pricetag. In fact, this writer would have hypothetically accepted £75m. It can be reinvested into similarly fair priced players, as Maguire was two years ago. In addition there is the state-of-the-art training complex to pay for. Future planning indeed.
