Former Leicester City defender Danny Simpson could be nearing a return to the Premier League, according to TeamTalk.

Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace have both made contact with the right-back in an attempt to sign him up as soon as possible.

In case you’re confused, the regulations do allow clubs to sign free agents if there is room in the 25-man squad – which is submitted at the end of the transfer window.

Simpson also trained with Celtic earlier this summer but to no avail as he failed to land a deal. However, there is hope that he could do that at Brighton or Palace.

Simpson, who signed for Leicester in the summer of 2014 – right after the promotion to the Premier League – was one of the key figures responsible for the title win in 2015/16.

He made 132 appearances for the Foxes, scoring three goals and putting in unlimited shifts that can never be forgotten by anyone who counts himself as a fan.

Regardless, it was the right time for Leicester to move on from the 32-year old. Jaded legs would have done more harm than good to the kind of side that Brendan Rodgers wants to build.

In Ricardo Pereira, Simpson’s successor, Leicester have one of the best (in his position) in the league. Not only is he the complete modern-day right-back but versatile as well, meaning that shall a change of formation ever be thought of, then he’d be completely ready for that.
