Preview: Leicester City search for first win of the season against Sheffield United
Leicester City will be in search of their first win of the season when they take on the newly-promoted Sheffield United.
Both the sides are unbeaten in the Premier League, although Leicester are yet to win a game following consecutive draws against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea.
An honest assessment would be that Leicester were – barring the last 20 minutes or so at Stamford Bridge – not up to the mark in either of their previous two games.
They were well below par against Wolves – the defenders being an exception – and only woke up late in the day against Chelsea (boy were they good once awake).
The results haven’t been necessarily bad but the performances have been “to an extent”, partly because of who Leicester played and partly because of the early season rustiness.
However, none of those two excuses would be valid against Sheffield. It doesn’t matter what anyone says, there is no way they are better or even as good as Leicester. That is a fact.
Which can only mean one thing: Brendan Rodgers’ side have an obligation to get three points.
The Blades might have got off to an unbeaten start but they have – with all due respect – only played Crystal Palace and AFC Bournemouth, who are not exactly impossible to beat even for a team that’s new to the top division.
Leicester should be smelling three points. Anything less than that would feel like a defeat.
One to watch
Caglar Soyuncu. There isn’t much happening on the offensive front for Leicester these days anyway.
The latest of the Foxes’ hot properties was exceptional once again, and if he keeps on playing the way he is at the moment, then Leicester are going to be quite the defensive unit.
Harry Maguire? Who?
Quotes
"“There are obviously elements we always want to improve on but early in the season, you want to build a base from the defensive perspective,” said Brendan Rodgers.“We didn’t give much away against Wolves and against Chelsea we were defensively strong.“I have been pleased with parts of both games and now it’s just about continuing how we performed against Chelsea in the final hour.”"
