Manchester United Vs Leicester City: Red Devils could be without key duo
Manchester United could be without Paul Pogba and Aaron Wan-Bissaka for their Premier League clash against Leicester City next week.
Wan-Bissaka had been named in the England squad to face Bulgaria and Kosovo in the UEFA Euro Qualifier but he had to pull out because of a back injury.
It is unclear at this point of time as to what exactly is the extent of his injury as United haven’t revealed anything at all.
Here’s what the statement on their website read:
"“Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been forced to withdraw from the England squad due to a back issue.“The right-back has enjoyed a fine start to the season with the Reds and was rewarded with a first senior international call-up by manager Gareth Southgate, ahead of the European Championship qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.“Despite training with his colleagues at St George’s Park, he has had to return to United for treatment."
Like his teammate, Pogba had been called up for international duties with France, too, as they play Albania and Andorra in the Euro Qualifiers.
He, however, had to withdraw because of an ankle injury that he sustained in the 1-1 draw against Southampton on Saturday.
The club’s official statement was not a far cry from that of Wan-Bissaka. He is more likely to miss out, though.
"“The France Football Federation has confirmed that Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has been forced to withdraw from international duty with an injury.“A statement that was posted via their official Twitter account, @EquipeDeFrance, on Monday afternoon revealed the 26-year-old has been replaced by Arsenal player Matteo Guendouzi due to an ankle problem.“Didier Deschamps’s reigning World Cup-winners are preparing to face Albania and Andorra at the Stade de France on Saturday and next Tuesday, respectively.“Pogba had played a full match for United at the weekend, in the 1-1 draw against Southampton in the Premier League, and it currently remains unclear how serious his injury might be.“As ever, a full assessment will be made at the Aon Training Complex in due course."
Leicester couldn’t really care less if United are with or without Pogba and Wan-Bissaka. They have been playing some world-class football and have been miles ahead of United in terms of everything – as is reflected well in their respective league positions.
This will probably be the first time that the Foxes go to the Old Trafford as the clear favourites. And you cannot entirely rule out the possibility of a comprehensive and resounding win for them either.
They only have to handle the occasion well and Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans and James Maddison et al will do the rest. They win this and the East Midlands will explode.
