Ben Chilwell has praised Leicester City team-mate Caglar Soyuncu for several things, including: stepping up to replace Harry Maguire, his English and quality as a player.

Within the Blue Army, the collective name for Leicester City supporters, the general consensus is that Caglar Soyuncu has done a fine job equalling the prowess of Harry Maguire at centre-back. Some, this writer included, believe the Turk has even surpassed Maguire’s overall quality in a short space.

Albeit we are assessing Maguire in an entire campaign, 2018/19 – versus Soyuncu in five matches. Though, four of those clashes were supremely impressive Premier League games. And one Carabao Cup conquest at Newcastle United. In all contests he is involved in, Leicester’s No.4 is fully committed at the very least.

Before the 2019/20 season got going many Foxes and impartial observers noted that Leicester City’s centre-half choices were inadequate or future prospects. Such starlets were mainly considered as future players needing development, like Soyuncu and Filip Benkovic.

Benkovic is Croatian and aged-23. He, as his Turkish international counterpart, was purchased around the end of the summer transfer window last year. Benkovic played under current Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers, earning rave reviews in Scotland with Celtic. He returned from his loan and is now getting his fitness up to a satisfactory level in training.

Soyuncu impresses Leicester City team-mates

Left-back for England and the East Midlanders, Ben Chilwell, is certainly impressed with his colleague. While Soyuncu was establishing himself in a duo of first choice centre-backs, along with Jonny Evans, other companions stated their admiration for the former Freiburg man, too:

light. More. We can beat anyone on our day - Chilwell

"“They were massive boots to fill with Harry leaving but he has done brilliantly and was arguably one of our best players for the first four games of the season,” said Chilwell after Saturday’s game.“He is good to play with. His English is improving – he tries to talk in the games as much as he can.“He has everything a good centre-back should have. He is quick and strong and good on the ball. He’s composed. He has everything you need to be a good centre-back and is showing he is.”– Ben ChilwellVia: Leicester Mercury"
