There’s been much speculation over Leicester City star James Maddison’s future. Though, manager Brendan Rodgers has now had his say.

It is mandatory for Leicester City that they retain their star players. Not just for the chance to break the top-six monopoly, nor as a statement of intent – but as a credible element to achieve the club’s aims.

‘Player power’ is the main issue for the East Midlands club, as this writer perceives it. We saw the worst example of that by a man who helped as much as anyone in having the team realise its most significant success: Riyad Mahrez after the Premier League title win.

The best, if it can indeed be described as that, aspects of player power were exhibited by Harry Maguire: wanting a move, quietly and honestly to a superpower football club like Manchester United. Yet allowing your current employers the time to conduct a reasonable transfer.

Another example is going AWOL and demanding to leave the owners and team that gave you a chance to be at the top like a petulant child. Of course, no one can begrudge anyone’s rise in career; despite the difficulty of watching your most accomplished players depart. Though one can handled oneself with decorum and respect.

Will Maddison push for a transfer from Leicester City?

With the aptitude James Maddison possesses to create and score goals at his disposal, it’s easy to see why Tottenham Hotspur and United would be following him. Though the question really is: How long can Leicester hang-on to ‘Madders’? If we at Foxes of Leicester had to give our honest, candid assessment, we’d probably say: the former Norwich man’s persona lies somewhere between a Mahrez and Maguire.

Foxes Manager Brendan Rodgers had his say on the matter at Thursday’s pre-Spurs press conference:

"“No, not necessarily. In a player’s career, there will always be that temptation.“This is a club that doesn’t want to sell its best players, but of course, if there’s a valuation that is met, which meets what the club perceive the player to be worth, then there will be a discussion.“But it’s not something we want to invite. James is very much a talented player for us. He still has lots of improvements to make as a young player.“He, along with a number of young players, we want to keep here. But of course, I’m a realist as well.“I understand how the market works. But it’s not something we would be looking to entertain.”– Brendan RodgersVia: LCFC Live"

So Rodgers is confident the club is on the right track to ensure quality athletes want to stay at King Power Stadium. In addition, it’d be nice to attract the best in transfer business, too.
