Legendary Premier League striker and current BBC pundit Alan Shearer believes ‘Premier League top four is a real possibility for Leicester City this season’.

Leicester City saw off Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Saturday lunchtime, thanks to goals from Ricardo Pereira and a wonder-finish from James Maddison. That win is not just another three points – it is a well-known scalp; a statement of intent. Not to mention being a confidence booster for the Foxes’ aspirations of finishing sixth in this season’s Premier league, or higher.

Brendan Rodgers’ latest promising result came about from the ability to identify his own mistake and correct it: in this case Maddison’s role in the team. Jamie Vardy is the focal point of Leicester’s potency; while “Madders” is the nucleus. Stuck out on the wing, the Coventry City graduate can supply quality – but it isn’t his most efficient position by a long way!

Maddison at either No.10 or No.8 – if the system dictates – is the ideal placing for the ex-Norwich City man. He is a playmaker: it is far more difficult to ply trade like that on the wing. Rodgers has seen the errors of his own ways and has made amends, obviously the player’s winning strike was the cherry upon the icing on the cake.

Tottenham were of course stunned by the cruel and possibly slightly unfair outcome, following a particularly contentious offside decision against them. Son Heung-min was adjudged as ‘off’ during the build up to Serge Aurier’s decent dispatch, the goal disallowed.

Spurs felt hard done by as their man was mere millimeters wrong; they were backed by many pundits, observers and journalists. However, if the technology is indeed accurate – then the North Londoners have nothing to complain about.
