Leicester City supporters should expect many changes to the familiar Premier League starting XI for the trip to Luton Town on Tuesday evening in the Carabao Cup Third Round.

It’s certainly been a start to 2019/20 us Leicester City fans would have taken at the beginning of the campaign. Well, Third in the Premier League behind the magnificent Liverpool and Manchester City. Not everything has gone according to plan but the division’s horizon is rosy for the Foxes.

Although now we focus away from the top-flight because of Leicester’s involvement in the Carabao Cup Third Round versus Luton Town. Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers has hinted at changes.

Expected Leicester City starting XI

This is the probable City line-up that Foxes of Leicester expect, in a 4-3-3 formation: Danny Ward (Goalkeeper); Dan Amartey, Filip Benkovic, Wes Morgan (captain), James Justin; Hamza Choudhury, Dennis Praet, Ayoze Perez; Demarai Gray, Marc Albrighton; Kelechi Iheanacho. Substitutes will likely include a selection of experience and youth.

However this team choice may be less strong than some people predict, or want to begin the game. The Blue Army has long complained, rightly, about side selections being too weak to complete for a much desired cup run and possible triumph. FoL feel that Iheanacho – not even a sub Vs Newcastle United – deserves a chance and looked fairly sharp pre-season.

Against the Magpies in the Second Round of the League Cup – whom the Foxes defeated thanks to penalties – Brendan Rodgers opted for a very senior starting choice: Kasper Schmeichel, Christian Fuchs, Caglar Soyuncu, Ricardo Pereira, Youri Tielemans, Harvey Barnes, James Maddison as well as Jamie Vardy began the match.

More from Foxes of Leicester

Matty James would’ve been an almost definite selection for both contests, though he is injured, again. Leicester have been marvellous in standing by their undoubtedly talented midfielder, yet it is time they put him up for sale in January.

Perez is expected to start for confidence, as he’s lost his place with no competitive goal involvements since signing. This proposed attempt to play him as the most advanced midfielder or No.10 could be key. He is not a winger, it seems.

It would be easy to speculate that Rodgers will deploy the sort of line-up which he did at St. James’ Park for the trip to Luton. But Steve Bruce was always going to field a Premier League level outfit – therefore Rodgers did so too. It’s very likely players such as Maddison, Vardy, Soyuncu as well as Ricardo will now be rested as they’ve made generally wonderful starts to the season. Not to mention the fact that the Hatters are 21st in the Championship.
