Leicester City defeated Newcastle United 5-0 on Sunday in the Premier League. Brendan Rodgers’ side are the best of the rest and Jamie Vardy is ‘looking forward to facing Liverpool’!

Following the dismantling of a particularly poor and lacklustre Newcastle United, striker Jamie Vardy – a two-goal hero from the contest – believes his team-mates are buoyant enough to be confident of challenging Liverpool. Jurgen Klopp’s team’s dominance in 2019/20 is well-known but the former England goalscorer and his side are riding high.

Goals from Ricardo Pereira, Vardy’s brace, a Paul Dummett own goal and a Wilfred Ndidi finish did the damage against the North East club.

Some analysis before the drubbing on Sunday consisted of meaningless statistics and facts like: Newcastle have won on their last two visits to King Power Stadium. Therefore many onlookers expected a tough match for the Foxes. Well to be honest, Foxes of Leicester didn’t see it that way at all beforehand as the Magpies are so erratic, plus much has changed since.

To be honest, as a cynical Leicester fan, it feels as though we’re probably, unfairly, due a drubbing because we’re not used to the bubble not bursting. Excluding 2015/16, of course. In fact, incredibly, the East Midlands outfit are currently outperforming the tally with the exact same matches played in comparison to the Premier League title wining campaign.

Although the defeat by Manchester United at Old Trafford felt avoidable, it is a further example of Leicester City’s true progress. Therefore Brendan Rodgers has to be congratulated on his side’s evolution; regardless of his cautiousness versus the Red Devils.

A top six finish and stability would be more than enough for many of the faithful, yet Vardy is even targeting Liverpool at Anfield as the next scalp in the quest for top four Champions League qualification:
