During the pre-match press conference for the Liverpool game at Anfield, former Reds boss Brendan Rodgers gave an update on Leicester City star James Maddison’s injury.

James Maddison is the pivotal player in the Leicester City team under Brendan Rodgers. Especially since the Northern Irish boss decided to stop playing his playmaker wide – regardless of any benefits it caused. The truth is that too many of the former-Norwich man’s world-class attributes were stifled as a winger.

Now that Maddison is central and advanced as a No.10, or interchangeable as a No.8, we see the best from him. Yes, he and friend Ben Chilwell can combine on the left well occasionally. As a method it also opens up space for the latter to attack – when he is focussed on doing so – which isn’t always the case. And, of course, “Madders” has carte blanche to roam inward to create.

Though in the middle is any playmaker’s bread and butter, Maddison has said himself that he is naturally happy and content to be fielded wherever the manager sees fit. However, he also believes that the aforementioned centralised placing is his most proficient deployment.

Recent injury to Leicester City star

Sadly just as Maddison was coming into excellent form in this early stage of 2019/20, he received an unfortunate knock and missed the Newcastle United match. Thankfully the Foxes won that contest 5-0: thanks to an own goal of Dennis Praet’s making, two from Jamie Vardy, a Wilfred Ndidi finish and one from the inimitable Ricard Pereira.

Having just scored a sublime winner against Tottenham Hotspur, Leicester were lucky to manage against the Magpies without their star player. However, Praet was a more than satisfactory replacement for the 22-year-old. Maddison is, though, included in the new England squad.

Additionally, Foxes or Leicester can share some good news with you with regards to Maddison’s availability for the Liverpool clash on Saturday:
