Leicester rocker Tom Meighan comes to defence of City player Hamza Choudhury, by slamming racists and elements of the internet.

To set the scene, on Saturday Leicester City lost to Liverpool at Anfield by the most narrow of margins. It was 2-1 to the hosts in the end, as James Milner buried a 95th minute penalty. Despite the Foxes not playing at their best in a overly defensive-minded set-up, they impressed and deserved a point overall.

Sadio Mane’s delayed fall – or dive, if you prefer – from Marc Albrighton’s clumsy challenge also left a bitter taste on the way back to the East Midlands. Albrighton had the opportunity to clear, hesitating. Blame can also be laid at the door of Kasper Schmeichel, he could have jumped on the ball or merely picked it up.

Regardless of being their own worst enemies, Brendan Rodgers has given the squad an organized boost in proficiency and confidence. He is very much appreciated by the faithful and is contributing to the King Power club’s ascension almost perfectly. Let’s just attack the established top six in a more forward-thinking manner – like the Tottenham Hotspur match.

Leicester City controversy

Additionally in the Reds contest – in which James Maddison and Mane netted the two other goals – there was a second contentious moment. Mohamed Salah was chopped down cynically by Leicester City midfielder Hamza Choudhury. Although we see attempts to bring players down in professional foul scenarios regularly, this was deemed a dangerous tackle.

Yet Choudhury did not try to injure Salah, but merely clip his heels to stop the fast breakaway. Unfortunately for all concerned the Fox got it completely wrong – his thigh accidentally landing on the Egyptian’s ankle. The subsequent substitution of the winger, along with manager Jurgen Klopp’s over the top comments post match, further inflamed the uproar. Thankfully Liverpool’s talisman isn’t seriously injured.

Furthermore, the England Under-21 man received racial abuse on social media from some ‘so called’ Liverpool supporters. Anger and condemnation met the horrible words of hate. Many denounced it, including Kasabian frontman and Leicester fan Tom Meighan:

More from Foxes of Leicester

"“[On social media] You can do anything you bloody want if you want to. Our boy Choudhury, our man right. He’s getting grief for the colour of his skin. It will never stop, and I blame social media and the internet for everything”– Tom MeighanRead and listen to more using this link to BBC Sport"

No one should have to endure what Choudhury has; it is time for picture ID and further registration in order to maintain social etiquette and membership on social media.
