Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers has expressed his concern at the lack of “goals and contributions” from the wingers.

Ayoze Perez and Harvey Barnes have just one goal and two assists between in a combined16 Premier League appearances, which is worrying.

While their displays have not necessarily been bad, the output has been missing, as has been the consistency.

Rodgers has taken note of it and looks forward to helping the players improve in whatever way he can.

"“Our wingers need to do more, both in terms of goals and contributions,” he said.“The problem is that they are better when they come off the bench.“You can’t go through the season as a winger with one goal or two goals. There is potential there but there needs to be greater efficiency if we want to be at the top end of this league.“We cannot always rely on the same players to score the goals — Jamie Vardy, Youri Tielemans. These guys work very hard but it’s about producing and that takes time as well. This is a big level and, if we want to be up there, there’s a price.“There’s a big demand on them to press, to be aggressive, but also to create chances and score goals. There needs to be a will as well, to run towards the ball, not be static.“Can you coach that? Yes, absolutely. You can open up the idea of scoring and creating.”"

Rodgers is quite right to ask the wingers to do more. They are almost always involved heavily but are they doing enough in terms of the output? The numbers have the answer.

What if Jamie Vardy gets injured? What if he hits a bad streak? That will really land the Foxes in trouble.

Vardy is the leading goal scorer this season with six strikes to his name, which is an amazing return, but no one else has more than two goals.

Here’s another interesting stat: Ricardo Pereira has more goals than Barnes and Perez combined. That is not to suggest that he’s a better player or has more goals in him, just that the duo needs to step up a bit.

It’s a long season and one player cannot share the goalscoring burden if the club wants to be in the UEFA Champions League next season.

Yes, it is Vardy who we are talking of and we know that when he is on song, he is on song but you never know.
