Following the incredible 9-0 win at Southampton’s St Mary’s Stadium, Leicester City forward Ayoze Perez described the feeling of finally scoring first goals.

Pleasant surprise and a fair amount of excitement surrounded the transfer of Ayoze Perez from Newcastle United to Leicester City in the summer. Foxes fans welcomed the addition with open arms, though some expected an out-and-out winger to be signed.

Though Perez is more than a nippy and skillfully tricky winger – he does, however, have those attributes – he can play across the front-line. Additionally he can be deployed as a No.10 or a support striker, too. Variability gives options and potency to manager Brendan Rodgers’ side; many observers knew this was a particularly astute incoming.

Although it took a good while, until gameweek eight, or October, for Perez to directly involve himself in a King Power club goal. Yet that was worth awaiting: an assist to James Maddison which should have ensured a draw at Liverpool’s Anfield. Kasper Schmeichel and Marc Albrighton  then sadly, unwittingly conspired to concede – following a ridiculous mishap in the simplest of scenarios. Very out of character.

Subsequent to the Reds match, the Spaniard reclaimed his place in the starting XI versus Burnley. He didn’t make another contribution in regards to finding the net in that contest. Therefore some onlookers were taken aback when he kept his spot for the Southampton clash.

Consequently, Perez proved his boss absolutely correct in keeping faith – by netting with three brilliant finishes. The 26-year-old spoke to Sky Sports after the final whistle:

"“Finally I score my first Leicester City goal and end up with a hat-trick.“An unbelievable performance, you cannot ask for anymore. It was a top team mentality, we kept going until the end – an amazing night for everyone.“It’s different [working under Brendan Rodgers as opposed to Rafa Benitez], obviously in this team we are able to have the ball for more time. We are enjoying the ball. We are different – the way we are playing in Leicester very enjoyable. I’m still adapting to the team. But it went very well tonight.“It’s an amazing feeling [to get first goal]. It took a while, as I said before, I had in mind ‘I wanted to get the first one, that’s the hardest one to get’ and I knew as soon as I get my first one – the goals will keep coming.”– Ayoze PerezVia: Sky Sports Main Event"
