Four Leicester City players in Jamie Redknapp’s Premier League Team of the Week
Four Leicester City players have made it into Jamie Redknapp’s Premier League Team of the Week.
Leicester ran riot at the St. Mary’s Stadium against a sorry Southampton on Friday, putting nine goals past them in what was perhaps their best display in the PL era.
They didn’t only secure the biggest ever away win in PL history – previous best being Manchester United’s 8-1 rout of Nottingham Forest – but also equalled the record for the biggest PL win (United 9-0 Ipswich Town).
So it is no surprise that Redknapp has picked Jamie Vardy, Ayoze Perez, James Maddison and Ben Chilwell in his Team of the Week.
While Vardy and Perez bagged hat-tricks, Maddison (one goal) and Chilwell (one goal and two assists) got on the scoresheet, too, although their role in the Saints’ annihilation was far bigger.
Elsewhere, talkSPORT’s Team of the Week featured five Leicester players, with Jonny Evans joining Redknapp’s lot, whereas Whoscored’s statistical XI had six Foxes, namely Vardy, Perez, Maddison, Chilwell, Ricardo Pereira and Youri Tielemans.
How did Redknapp pick only four? Truth be told, you could go with an all-Leicester XI for GW 10 and no one would disagree, such was the perfection with which Brendan Rodgers’ side played.
Anyway, here’s the former Liverpool midfielder’s team in full:
GK: Ben Foster (Watford)
RB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka (United)
CB: Sokratis Papastathopoulos (Arsenal)
CB: Steve Cook (Bournemouth)
LB: Ben Chilwell (Leicester)
CM: Jordan Henderson (Liverpool)
CM: James Maddison (Leicester)
CM: Christian Pulisic (Chelsea)
RAM: Ayoze Perez (Leicester)
LAM: Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)
ST: Jamie Vardy (Leicester)
