Leicester City centre-back Jonny Evans raves a lot about Ben Chilwell, says Darren Fletcher.

Chilwell’s rise to the top over the last two seasons has been meteoric. There was a time when there were very few who believed in him, but once Claude Puel have him his fair share of opportunities, he did not look back.

Today, he is one of the best left-backs in the world and there is absolutely no one who would challenge that notion – at least not Evans, as his former Manchester United teammate Fletcher has brought to our notice.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, the 35-year old revealed how big a fan Evans is of Chilwell.

"“I know they’re excited about Ben Chilwell at Leicester,” Fletcher said.“I speak to Jonny Evans a lot, he’s a good friend of mine, he raves about him. He raves about a lot of the players at Leicester, but he definitely raves about Ben Chilwell.“He says he’s fantastic, he says he’s powerful, he’s got everything to be England’s left-back for a long, long time.”"

Chilwell was marvellous in the 9-0 victory over Southampton last Friday, scoring a goal and assisting a couple more. It was perhaps his best night in a Leicester shirt, which is saying something, considering how high a bar the 22-year old has set in recent times.

Displays like these are why Manchester United and Manchester City have been targeting him for a long time. He is consistent, he is world-class, he is elite, and that is the sort of profile that big clubs normally look for – whether United are a big club anymore or not is up for debate, though.

However – and whisper it quietly – the rumours have died down a bit of late. Is it because of Leicester’s changing status? Or does this not mean anything and the hush will soon turn into a clamour? We will find out soon.
