1. Jamie Vardy

Perennially unappreciated as one of the top-flight’s best strikers in history, at 32 Jamie Vardy is still doing the business up front for the Foxes and long may it continue. This is his sixth Prem campaign with the East Midlands side. Netting four times in three October matches make him our choice for number one this month.

Vardy is currently top of the league’s scoring chart; the former-England forward has never won an illusive Premier League golden boot. Can this term be his year? There is a big chance 2019/20 can be the one – he appears to improve with age. Should he finish at the pinnacle, then his status as overlooked will no longer be perpetual.

Vardy’s nine finishes put him top of the pile for the division ahead of Man City’s Sergio Aguero and Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham in hot pursuit with eight apiece. Not to mention, the No.9 being the highest points scorer on the hugely popular Fantasy Premier League.

Now and again Vardy is stranded in a solo striker system. Yet he always plays that way and does well, generally. However, it is a far improved situation than under previous manager Claude Puel.

While Rodgers is at the helm, Vardy is more involved; along with his goal haul proving the stratagem works. Defenders are obviously instructed to play with a deep defensive line, because of the ex-Fleetwood Town attacker’s rapid speed.

Therefore the playmaking had to adapt with an intricate, “Madders-esque” clinical nature. Playing closer key passes for shorter “Vards” runs through. Consequently we see players like Chilwell, Ricardo and Harvey Barnes supplying varied crosses: high, mid-height and low for the forward to thrive under.

Tielemans would perhaps have been our fourth nomination, but alas we only have three spots. A fifth may have gone Maddison’s way, had he not been injured and had to miss a match. In this writer’s opinion, the Belgian pipped his midfield partner by a small margin overall in October. Ricardo was acutely unfortunate not to make the cut.
