Sky Sports recently conducted a thorough interview with Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers. The subject of his disliking of social media arose.

Appointing Brendan Rodgers as boss of Leicester City is one of the more astute decisions in modern football. Yes, we said it. Not just at the Foxes; nor simply a great appointment of the Premier League in recent times. He is without a doubt a talented, committed leader who wants and knows how to succeed.

Leicester were not going in the right direction under the Northern Irishman’s predecessor, Frenchman Claude Puel. They weren’t really going to do anything under Puel; a pragmatist who failed, understandably, to see the intent, quality, vision and aspiration of his players.

The former-Monaco player and gaffer just wanted to keep the team afloat in the premiership – at all cost to cups and progress. Unless at a snail-like pace. That scenario is difficult to get one’s head around, as then chairman, the late Khun Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, would have presumably explained the potential and ambition.

Anyway, despite Puel’s admirable modus operandi at a club which historically craved top-flight existence in any form, he, his stance, and results were eventually opposed to the current chairman, Aiyawatt ‘Top’ Srivaddhanaprabha. Consequently Puel was relieved of duty, allowing Rodgers’ ascension.

Leicester City boss doesn’t tweet

Although Rodgers embraces contemporary skills and technology, he is no lover of social media: Twitter, Facebook, Instagram etcetera. This avoidance is seemingly wise as too many players are preoccupied with how they look and show off on the “Gram”.

Not to mention athletes involving themselves in silly, petulant arguments with morons on Twitter. Additionally, the Leicester City chief doesn’t want his strategy, opinions or foresight “polluted” by ‘SM’.

"“I understand all of the positives around it; but there’s also a lot of opinions in the game – you know?  Much more now; there’s a lot of noise in social media which I don’t need to pollute my mind with.“I’m very private, I like to be as private as you possibly can be in my life. I don’t tend to necessarily want people to know where I’m relaxing or what I’m doing.“For many reasons: there are security reasons. You see it don’t you? What can happen when people know where you are and that type of stuff.“I tend to not want to put out something that is just always happy – because that’s not real life either.”– Brendan RodgersHear more at Sky Sports on YouTube"
