Leicester: Brendan Rodgers talks end of season targets
Leicester City and manager Brendan Rodgers have seven wins in eight matches – so what is his Premier League finishing target for the club?
Leicester City are currently conducting a brilliant run in the Premier League; along with achieving a Carabao Cup Quarter-Final versus Everton to come in December. Currently the Foxes are third place in the division, behind the mighty Liverpool and Manchester City.
Can Leicester finish in the top-four this campaign? Absolutely; manager Brendan Rodgers will be aiming for top-six but he knows higher is possible. Will the East Midlands club rival the Citizens or the Reds for first or second place? It’s feasible, yet extremely unlikely.
Rodgers has a good enough squad – probably better than Claudio Ranieri’s title-winners in 2016 – though the aforementioned leaders are superb. A daunting challenge, indeed. Third or fourth would be relished by the Blue Army; as well as a cup run or triumph.
Leicester City’s upcoming fixtures
Recent victories for Leicester include: Crystal Palace away, Tottenham Hotspur, Burnley, Newcastle United and a dismantling of Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium.
Next up for the King Power side is Arsenal at home. There could not be a better time to play the Gunners, who are engulfed in problems at present. On and off the pitch.
Jamie Vardy is a very likely candidate for a goal or two against Unai Emery’s team. Foxes of Leicester strongly expect a Foxes win. In fact, winning would cement Leicester as Champions League qualification candidates – specifically by disregarding Arsenal.
Rodgers on targets
The Northern Irishman at the helm, being rather coy, believes focus is key to a successful term, not to mention realising ambitions:
"“The team’s playing well, but we’re certainly not getting carried away… They [the squad] understand we’re trying to create something here and were constantly trying to improve.“With ten games to go let’s see where we are. We’re comfortable in the fact that we’re challenging.“People ask about European football – and we don’t want to limit ourselves… Let’s work and systematically get better and improve, so we’re in a good place but there’s a long way to go.” – Brendan RodgersVia: Sky Sports News"
