Gareth Southgate: Leicester’s Jamie Vardy may play for England again
In a recent interview before the two England Euro 2020 qualifying matches, manager Gareth Southgate said the door is open for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy.
2019/20 is – currently – coming along almost perfectly for Leicester City: third in the Premier League and an upcoming Carabao Cup Quarter-Final. And we’re only in early November. Obviously that means it can all come crashing down like a plummeting house of cards. Along with a prospective loss away to a nondescript side in the FA Cup Third Round. Hopefully none of that will happen.
Brendan Rodgers is managing the side so astutely well that it feels as though finishing behind Manchester City and Liverpool is a definite possibility. Not to mention winning one of the two domestic cups becoming more and more likely. Here’s hoping.
The set-up for the King Power club is expert: from restaurants, to training ground, to pitch level. Therefore anything is possible. Another indicator that nothing is impossible is the inimitable, talismanic and effervescent Jamie Vardy. At 32, Vardy is as potent as ever. Maybe even more so than before.
In fact, the former-Fleetwood Town hitman apparently has the same, or very similar, swift pace as he always had. His expertise is obviously improving with experience, focus, determination and dedication. Put it this way: it’s unlikely Kelechi Iheanacho will get a look in any year in the near future, if he remains the understudy.

To prove this point further, as Leicester City’s legendary Fox Vardy sits atop of the Premier League scoring list, England boss Gareth Southgate said there is a chance that Vardy – who recently retired from Three Lions duty – might get a recall. Southgate may require the forward’s talents once more. Especially in this form:
"“We know his quality. I have always left that opportunity open. I don’t see the point at this moment in time because the conversation I had with Jamie was around looking at younger players in that position.“It isn’t one for now but we keep monitoring that because you have a ready-made experienced player who could come in if we felt that was the right thing.”– Gareth SouthgateVia: BBC Sport"
