This article aims to explain the importance of Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi to the team. He leads two Premier League categories this term and is no unsung hero.

If a team is in good spirits, finely tuned as well as performing at a high standard, then no player is generally easily replaced. Only the particularly exceptional are more vital than others. Wilfred Ndidi is outstanding and a feverishly necessary cog in the Leicester City wheel.

Some play, like that of Jamie Vardy and his constant harrying for example, is kind of immeasurable. Not for distance ran, those statistics are readily available. Yet the importance of his closing down and pressurizing isn’t measured by stats. However, it is indispensable.

Brendan Rodgers’ importance is obviously very high for the team, as an inspiring and talented manager. James Maddison, or say Kasper Schmeichel, too. Though some are more irreplaceable than others.

Why Ndidi is vital to Leicester City

Another element of the contemporary, exciting Foxes play revolves around the incredible recovery, intervention power and sheer admirable relentlessness of Ndidi in defensive-midfield. Amazingly, the Nigerian actually leads two Premier League categories attributed to that position or a defender: interceptions, along with tackling. He made a whopping eight challenges versus Crystal Palace.

The standout Fox has, furthermore, made the highest number of both in total from all five top European divisions compared.

According to Squawka, Ndidi ’emulates former-Manchester United player Ji-Sung Park and Ex-Leicester City and current Chelsea star N’golo Kante’. In fact, it also states that not even Kante has matched the 22-year-old’s amount of Premier League tackles since summer 2016. Ndidi has made more than anyone with 402; not to mention him only playing 50 per cent of games that campaign upon joining.

Whoscored.com also nominate the midfielder’s prowess: the stats website rates him as the fourth best performing athlete in the premiership. He scores an average of 7.62; funnily enough it’s the same rating as the media outlet gives to colleague Maddison, in equal place.

Retaining the Nigeria international is imperative for the King Power club – as much as any other squad member. Surely some big outfits will be circling for his signature in the January transfer window or by the summer one. With a slightly improved passing rate and style, he’d be the world’s elite protective midfielder.
