Using facts, statistics and educated opinion, this article aims to outline how the contemporary Leicester City team is superior to the 2015/16 title-winners.

Before the match, beating Arsenal at home felt almost like a foregone conclusion for Leicester City. Obviously it wasn’t: it took excellent management, tactical nous, team spirit, focus and determination. Along with a small amount of luck at elite level naturally. The Gunners not scoring when first-half opportunities arose, is one example of fortune.

However, when analysing the optimal form of the Foxes team through statistical data, positioning, games won, performances and systems in losses – it is clear Leicester are top-four finishing quality. Actually, it could quite easily be a higher Premier League finish this term.

Hopefully the East Midlands side will continue this fine run under the expert guidance of Brendan Rodgers, for years to come. Their collective confidence, solidarity and belief certainly seems at pinnacle point.

More from Foxes of Leicester

Are Leicester City better now than in 2016?

Those aforementioned aspects of the current Foxes outfit were certainly inherent from the champions of 2016. Only Kasper Schmeichel and Jamie Vardy are regular starters from that XI, though. However they are still positive squad influencers.

According to BBC Sport, there are some quite revealing statistics with regards to the aptitude and adroitness of the modern Leicester City team. Specifically in comparison to the 2015/16 premiership title-winners.

Some choice stats and facts from the outlet are as follows:

"Leicester better than 2016 – the best statsLeicester have won three consecutive top-flight home games against Arsenal for the first time in their history.Leicester have won five Premier League home games in a row for only the second time, last doing so in May 2017 under Craig Shakespeare.Leicester’s haul of 26 points from their 12 Premier League games this season is their most ever at this stage of a top-flight campaign, and one more than they had in their title winning season of 2015-16.Vardy is the top Premier League goalscorer so far this season (11), as well as being the top scorer in the competition in 2019 (23). [He didn’t win the golden boot in 2016]"

In addition, the Foxes have made the fifth most chances in the top-flight this campaign. Not to mention conceding the fewest goals. Is competition greater in EPL when comparing with four seasons ago?

Surely the contemporary XI has a more diverse, varied repertoire of goalscoring. Personally, this writer would take N’golo Kante over Wilfred Ndidi. Riyad Mahrez also still gets into the side on the right-wing.

Hot. Mahrez offends Leicester fans again. light

In Foxes of Leicester’s opinion the contemporary side – as well as having Rodgers at the helm as opposed to Claudio Ranieri – is now the superior team overall. Strength within the depth in this roster definitely helps give 2019 the advantage. Although only Manchester City and Liverpool have improved, as opposed to the other clubs in and around the top of the division.
