Jamie Carragher asked Brendan Rodgers why he didn’t give him a job so the Leicester City boss apologized for ruining his former-player’s managerial career.

Before Jamie Carragher’s retirement from professional football in February 2013, almost seven years ago now, he was a vital part of current Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool team. Carragher began by going backwards, as he had to earn a place in Rodgers’ Reds starting XI.

Though the Englishman did just that in his final season, playing regularly for the Northern Irishman. It’s funny, there was recently a television clip of the retired centre-back explaining how he knew it was time to quit due to the pace of young Premier League stars. We all get to that point, Jamie.

In fact Rodgers spoke fondly of his ex-player at the time. According to lfchistory.net, when joining Liverpool the now Foxes manager said Carragher was a standout in a quiet team. Along with being a model professional and a particularly loud, true voice of the side at the time.

Carragher grills Leicester City boss

In his interview technique, Carragher is just as candid, bold and genuine as when playing. Therefore when the pair sat down for a recent interview for Telegraph Sport, it was obvious there’d be some rather fascinatingly juicy details emerging.

Apparently, Carragher was hoping for a job – or dual role as he was still playing – as a coach for Rodgers. Being a part of the 46-year-old’s now highly rated backroom staff could’ve been a springboard for the ex-England defender’s managerial career. However it was not to be, as explained below:

"Jamie Carragher:“You called me and said you were thinking about me joining your backroom team and then changed your mind. What happened?”I think Brendan is a bit taken aback.Brendan Rodgers:“Sorry for ruining your coaching career!” he laughs. “I remember thinking how much I was looking forward to working with you and Stevie [Gerrard] and it would be a good idea to have you on the coaching staff. Then when we met I got the feeling that you were still focused on playing for another season. It would have been difficult to do both. So apologies if I stopped you being a big manager now.”Via: Telegraph"
