Frank Lampard has made the Chelsea fans go berserk by dropping what might be a subtle hint of his and the club’s interest in Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell.

After the 22-year old set the Wembley alight with a hat-trick of assists in a thumping 7-0 win over Montenegro, nearly every fanbase was left drooling at the prospect of having him at their club.

It was the Chelsea faithful, however, who were rewarded with a transfer hint of sorts as Lampard, who was there at the stadium to watch the Three Lions, liked Chilwell’s Instagram post – a photo of him holding the Player of the Match award – captioned, “Great night, @england”.

Amazing isn’t it? One press of the like button and all of West London has been sent into an incommensurable frenzy. It might easily turn out to be just another like, but it could also be a beginning of an uncomfortable period at the the King Power Stadium – which we have come to expect of any month preceding the transfer window.

This is where Brendan Rodgers has another job at his hands. He has built a wonderful, committed and closely-knit unit that really can challenge for trophies.

Such speculation can very quickly result in cracks and distraction and what not. Leicester do not need that, not especially when they are nearing the defining phase of the season.

They make a mistake here and you never know who might pounce on the opportunity. Claude Puel had to deal with and he made a right meal of it. Rodgers cannot.
