DONE DEAL: Liverpool buy Brendan Rodgers’ house in Formby
Liverpool have completed their first bit of business ahead of the January transfer window by buying Brendan Rodgers’ house in Formby for £3.5 million.
The Leicester City boss has been renting the house to Jurgen Klopp since leaving Merseyside in 2015, and a year after putting it up for sale, it’s his former employers who have purchased it from him – for a hefty amount, too.
As reported by the Daily Mail’s Matt Hughes, the Reds are going to allow Klopp to stay rent free for as long as he is here, as could be the case for anyone who manages the club in future.
That’s nice, actually. It’s a seven-room house and for Liverpool to pay for it and let their manager stay “rent free”, is a really good gesture.
It further shows their relationship with the German and how well run the club is both on and off the pitch in every way.
Leicester City embarking on a similar journey
Leicester seem to be operating just as well. You can sense that Rodgers’ relationship with the club is prospering, the fans are completely behind him and the players, well, they are loving life under him.
All in all – and this not a wild comparison – the Foxes are moving in the exact direction that Liverpool did and still are since Klopp’s appointment.
Given that Leicester are able to hold on to their key players this January and the next summer, then there is a real chance that they are positioned well to challenge for silverware. They are at the moment, too, but the definition of silverware could be different a year later.
At the moment, the most that is expected of Leicester is a cup win, but if they finish third and strengthen further without too many sales, then even if it would be a touch too much, then many would hope for a potential title challenge.
