Caglar Soyuncu has made a tremendous, almost unprecedented start to Premier League life. Leicester City should reward him with a new contract to protect their latest crowd-pleaser.

Protecting assets is fundamental for success in any business or sport. While Leicester City want to entertain and please their supporters – they are inevitably in the business of sport. It’s results based, of course.

In order to win consistently in football, you need your best to remain whilst simultaneously attracting new signings of significant calibre. Brendan Rodgers’ introduction on Filbert Way wasn’t only met with gratefulness due to his proficiency but his assumed magnetism to sign players. Prospective incomings who wouldn’t otherwise, under different managers, may sign for the Foxes in contemporary times.

Without getting too deep into the subject, Leicester are sort of punching above their weight at second place in the Premier League. No disrespect intended. This writer has been a fan for over 25 years and wants to be objective, not partisan. Excellent management, exquisite youth development and shrewd investment were key to modern achievement.

Those elements enabled this club, of smaller city status, the ability to reach the dizzying levels it attains. Now it is imperative that the premium talent is retained. High on that list is Turkish international, Caglar Soyuncu.

Protecting Leicester City

According to lcfc.com, statistically Soyuncu is having a particularly sound as well as impressive season. For defences in the premiership this term, the Turk has made the fifth moth clearances; not always the greatest of stats as you preferably find a team-mate’s feet. Nonetheless he is up there. However Soyuncu has made the fourth most passes in the same category – showing he isn’t just a ‘hoofer’.

Though this now much talked about and admired defender is on a relatively lesser contract when compared with his opposite numbers at the so-called bigger clubs.

Maybe he needs a raise from the reported £45,000-a-week wage to satisfy him and warn teams like Arsenal away. Despite his 3-and-bit-years remaining on the current deal. It’s how it’s done – almost a ‘recommit’ gesture.

To scare off the envious competition for his signature, Leicester City must protect the player or, evidently, keep their asset happy. They can kill two birds with one stone, so to speak: by rewarding the highly rated centre-back a new contract for the excellent work this campaign.
