Leicester City are reportedly in the market for a striker in January. The Premier League may not be their target as another league is apparently identified.

Leicester City are scoring an array of goals from all angles, scored by multiple players from every position. Defenders, midfielders and of course the attackers are all getting in on the action in the Premier League and Carabao Cup.

Yet there are only two out-and-out, senior strikers in the Foxes squad: Jamie Vardy, along with the rarely used Kelechi Iheanacho. Therefore it is a worry that the East Midlands club is a little light in forward options.

Demarai Gray is being sparing used as a striker or support attacker occasionally, though he considers himself a winger. A similar classification can be applied to Ayoze Perez. He actually prefers a central role. Hopefully none of the four will get injured, especially Vardy, because there may be a shortage of goals.

Do Leicester City need another striker?

It is suggested by some sports media outlets that Leicester are in the market for a new forward, even as early as January. Some say they could be making a transfer move. Former Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is said to be eyeing Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos, his once Scottish rival team’s player, according to talkSPORT.

However Daily Record, based in Scotland, understand:

"…that the Foxes are not interested in signing the Colombian forward."

Morelos himself has spoken of his desire to play in the premiership or another top European division: “I dream of playing in a much better, more competitive league”. TalkSPORT quoted the Colombian as saying.

Us writers at Foxes of Leicester are impressed with Morelos’ record this season: nine finishes in twelve league matches. Not to mention his statistics of 15 goals in his last 25 Europa League outings. Although having said this, he probably isn’t the right option for Leicester.

There’s no question that the Colombia international will score goals in any of Europe’s top-flights. It’s almost certain. But he has only managed to net on one occasion in six appearances for his nation. A step-up in quality unfulfilled?

That stat must further take into account the minutes he will likely miss through suspension in a tough, competitive league like the EPL. Often considered the best in the world.

The Foxes have harmony in their squad at present; the last thing Rodgers needs is a player who was red carded four times last campaign as well as receiving 10 bookings. Yes, we’re aware that he’s only had one yellow card this season, though it’s a risk. Leicester are better advised to bide their time for the correct heir to Vardy’s legacy.
