James Maddison is reportedly close to signing a new contract with Leicester City, despite Manchester United’s intent to bring the midfielder to Old Trafford.

Leicester City are fulfilling their high potential in the 2019/20 campaign, even though it’s only about a third of the way through. Second to Liverpool is a fantastic position to currently be in the competitive Premier League. Although most observers expect Manchester City to fight for top spot, at least.

Top four is a distinct possibility for the Foxes this season. Losing certain stars would be detrimental to the squad next summer. Failing to retain the core, along with some influential players in January would be a disaster this term.

Imagine the partnership of Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans being torn apart as it blossoms so wonderfully for the King Power club. City are allegedly lurking for the duo.

How difficult it would be if, say, Wilfred Ndidi was stolen away from Filbert Way? Although Leicester City have Hamza Choudhury and Filip Benkovic waiting in back-up, neither may live up to expectations.

Maddison’s importance at Leicester City

James Maddison, arguably boss Brendan Rodgers’ most pivotal player, is an apparent target for a transfer from a significant club. Manchester United are linked constantly to the playmaker. Not to mention the footballing world being aware that the midfielder is a boyhood United fan.

According to Manchester Evening News’ Old Trafford sources, Maddison’s fellow England squad members Jesse Lingard as well as Marcus Rashford will attempt to convince the former-Norwich City man to join the Red Devils. Adding that the latter is still friendly with ex-Fox and another Three Lions regular, Harry Maguire. Another incentive it appears.

Fortunately for Leicester fans desperate to see the 22-year-old remain in the East Midlands, the outlet also says this:

"James Maddison is considering signing a new contract with Leicester despite strong interest from Manchester United.United have earmarked Maddison, 22, as a long-term target but the MEN understands the playmaker could re-sign with Leicester.Sources close to Maddison insist a new deal with Leicester is not close and Maddison could wait until the end of the season before deciding on his future.Via: MEN"

Also. LCFC shouldn't sign striker they're linked with. light

Obviously the two sources mentioned are in contradiction there but the initial speculation is particularly promising for the Foxes faithful.
