Ricardo Pereira names toughest EPL wingers he’s faced: Leicester
Leicester City right-back Ricardo Pereira is rated as one of the best modern attacking defenders in the Premier League – but who’s the best player he’s faced.
At first when Ricardo Pereira signed for Leicester City, he appeared to be a more efficient right-midfielder or winger than defender. He himself knew and discussed the scenario with media about a year ago or slightly less.
Acknowledging one’s shortcomings is something only the greatest do anyway – there is literally no other way to improve. Think about it. With regards to the Portuguese, he did exactly that: working on his defensive positioning; knowing when to challenge; and physically seeming tougher or more mentally focussed. Those attributes are essential for Premier League full-backs.
Consequently, Ricardo emerged as an almost unstoppable, un-droppable player for the Foxes, as a right-back. Additionally, the former Porto man was able to retain his attacking threat – scoring and assisting, seemingly at will. Not to mention his varying finishes: from long-range efforts to moments of pure individually brilliance.
Can Leicester City keep stars like Ricardo Pereira?
A simply answer to this is absolutely; at least until contracts are fulfilled or elapsed. Basically, Leicester have a policy of not inserting release clauses into deals. This materialized following losing N’golo Kante for relative peanuts.
There is also a dogma on Filbert Way which asserts the East Midlanders are ‘no longer a selling or feeder club’. Naturally this is beautiful music to the Blue Army’s ears. Keeping the star players is vital to achieve team aims.
Ricardo’s toughest opponents
Ricardo was recently interviewed by our friends at Próxima Jornada, giving one particularly interesting answer to the question ‘Which player is the toughest you’ve faced in the Premier League’?:
"“There are so many difficult opponents, it is not easy to pick, especially playing as a right-back! I think one has to be [Eden] Hazard, it is difficult to play against him because he is so unpredictable, he is very agile, and he protects the ball very well. [Raheem] Sterling too, he is very strong, and he likes to go inside and then goes outside which makes it very difficult to defend against.”– Ricardo PereiraRead loads more at Próxima Jornada"
