Chelsea have made Leicester City Ben Chilwell their “no.1 transfer target”, according to The Athletic.

The 22-year old has been repeatedly linked with the Blues despite their transfer embargo, and it is understood that as soon as the ban is lifted, the first signing Frank Lampard will look to make is that of Chilwell.

Chelsea are currently awaiting a word from the Court of Arbitration for Sport to know if their appeal has been successful. If it is, then they would be able to sign players in January. That’ll put the cat among the pigeons.

This is where Brendan Rodgers has another job at his hands. He has built a wonderful, committed and closely-knit unit that really can challenge for trophies.

Such speculation can very quickly result in cracks and distraction and what not. Leicester do not need that, not especially when they are nearing the defining phase of the season.

They make a mistake here and you never know who might pounce on the opportunity. Claude Puel had to deal with and he made a right meal of it. Rodgers cannot.

To an extent, a lot depends on Chilwell, too. Rodgers can only do so much.

Ultimately, the decision will be player’s and it’s him who has to choose if he wants to stay at Leicester and help complete this project, or he wants to go to Chelsea for potentially bigger things.
