Leicester City believe James Maddison will sign a contract extension pretty soon, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

The midfielder still has three years left on his current deal; however, Leicester are keen to tie him down to a longer contract to put off any potential suitors – namely Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

They are also looking to make Caglar Soyuncu put pen to paper, seeing as Manchester City have been tracking him of late. There’s real optimism around the club regarding the Turkish international, and they remain confident that he, too, will sign sooner rather than later.

Brendan Rodgers has already committed his future to the club, and new deals for Soyuncu and Maddison will further strengthen Leicester’s position for future negotiations – shall there be any with outside forces.

Much like Leicester’s football, their work off the field is world-class as well. They have never messed around when it comes to the star players’ contracts, which is how and why they got £60 million for Riyad Mahrez and £80 million for Harry Maguire.

We do not talk about it often but this is just as important. If your best let players run down their deals, then you’ve got no choice but to take a loss and move on if a bigger club comes in, as we have seen before so many times.

This management is part of the reason why Leicester are doing so well. They have built the club with real planning, common sense and sensibility and they are reaping the rewards for it.
