Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Leicester City right-back Ricardo Pereira, according to Belgian outlet Het Nieuwsblad.

Following the strange sale of Kieran Trippier to Atletico Madrid in the summer, Spurs have not had enough quality at right-back.

Kyle Walker-Peters and Serge Aurier being their currently available options, Pereira would easily be an upgrade, and given his form and the price he would be available in, it’s easy to see why Tottenham want him.

The report also claims that shall Leicester sell the 26-year old in January – which is more a case of “if” rather than “when” – then Royal Antwerp’s Aurelio Buta is who they would look at as the replacement.

Knowing Jose Mourinho, and also considering the fact that he’s Portuguese too, if indeed he is interested in Pereira, then Leicester might have an unnecessary headache soon.

Despite being one of the best in his position in the Premier League, Pereira’s displays have surprisingly gone under the radar a bit.

It’s both good and bad: good because it keeps others clubs away and bad because it deprives him of the plaudits he deserves. Gradually, however, he is beginning to see more of the spotlight.

The former Porto defender has come a long, long way since that shocker against AFC Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium in 2018 in a 4-2 drubbing.

One can even go so far to say that  only Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold is better than Pereira in this part of the world, although defensively, the latter is marginally ahead.

One can clearly see why Tottenham like him. They’re not getting him, though – are they?
